Not Mother’s Day…Yet

Its not for a few more weeks, but already I’m starting to lay awake at night fretting about Mother’s Day

My mother is at a point in her life where she has everything she could possibly want or need. She insists that I don’t have to buy her a Mother’s Day gift, that just a card and a phone call will suffice. But still…

I know she loves to open gifts – there’s the element of anticipation and surprise, the chance to thank ME for doing something for her, rather than the other way around. So I torture myself trying to come up with an idea for a present for her.

Back i

n the day, when my parents had dogs, I would gift wrap a plum or an orange or a Cadbury chocolate bar, and say that it was a present from Misty, our Weimaraner. Sigh. Life was simpler then.

And now, sadly, my mother no longer has a dog.

So, while I flagellate myself to think of something remotely original to give her (Readers – Please Help!), here is my Top Ten List of sublime, original and festive Mother’s Day gifts for all of you with mothers who DO have dogs:

10. Sleeps with Dogs PJs – she not only admits it, she’s proud of it!

9. Anna Quindlen’s Good Dog. Stayeverything she loves about her dog in words so simple and eloquent you’ll wish you wrote them yourself.

8. EcoMaids gift certificate – any Mom’s concept of heaven: someone else to clean up after the dog.

7. Interior Car Detailing gift certificate – those nose prints on the windshield and dog hair woven into the upholstery won’t come out any other way.

6. Your own coupon for unlimited dog walking – the weather is cooperating so there’s no excuse not to.

5. Sydney Love dog motif handbag – useful, chic and awfully cute.

4. Mom/dog salon/grooming certificates – both of your special family members clean up real nice.

3. Tickets to the Dogs & Divas luncheon on June 16 – there’s a Diva in every mom, plus the proceeds from this event benefit the American Cancer Society.

2. Contribution in her honor to her favorite rescue organization – she’ll be impressed by your generosity and thoughtfulness.

1. In-home dog training gift certificate – and you wondered what this blog could possibly have to do with dog training!
