Two of my favorite things will be at the Empire State Plaza this weekend.
Its the first Empire State Book Festival and Paws for a Cause!
I once attended the Texas Book Festival and if the New York one is anything like that, what a party it will be! Activities for kids, author signings, book readings, workshops and more.
The highlight of the Texas event – for me – was getting a hug from Kinky Friedman (books by this author).
The Empire State Book Festival has Robert Caro, Gregory Maguire and Mary Gordon – all being inducted into the Writers Hall of Fame. That’s a literary line-up you don’t see every day. Kudos to the New York Library Association for launching the festival.
I’ll have to miss this year’s celebration, but its for a good reason. The
Mental Health Foundation is holding the Paws for a Cause event again this year, and I will be there as a sponsor. If you haven’t attended before, its fun, its free, and the perfect time for any animal lover.
Last year, I had just started writing this blog for the Times Union, so its BARK‘s one year anniversary! Please stop by and say hello. I plan to give away a free training session to the winner of a raffle – all you have to do is take a quiz that rates your dog’s behavior to enter.
Although you can’t bring your dog to the Plaza, its okay bring your whole family to enjoy the demonstrations that include the phenomenal Purina Incredible Dog Team, and my favorites, the Empire Servicedogs.
