My clients often ask me to refer them to a reputable pet sitter or boarding kennel. They are sometimes not sure which one makes the most sense for their dog.
So I confess that I did not write this blog post! Allow me to introduce the person who did, my colleague Dana Polsinelli. I asked Dana to write this post because she knows when a dog will do well in a kennel, and when a pet sitter is a better choice.
Dana’s passion for animals led her to her current position as my associate at At Home Dog Trainer, LLC. She is also the owner of K-9 Nanny Professional Pet Sitting/Dog Walking. Dana is currently attending Animal Behavior College where she will be graduating with her basic obedience dog training certificate as well as Pet CPR and First Aid certificate.
“Hey there! My name is Lucy and I am a 7-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier. Unfortunately, I get anxious around other dogs and it is very hard for me to relax when I am around them. If I were to be boarded, I would be extremely stressed out by the other dogs, noises and smells in the facility.
When my hooomans go away, I love to stay in the comfort of my own home. They hire a really nice person that drops in a few times a day to check on me. This person will feed me, take me outside do my business, take me on a walk, play with me, give me cuddles and hugs. I’m nice and relaxed at home when my humans go away!“
“Woof Woof! Bark Bark! Bailey here! I am a 4-year-old Golden Retriever. I love hanging out with other dogs and playing with them until I am all tuckered out. When my humans go away, I love when they drop me off at an overnight boarder. I get to play with other dogs and then still have my own personal space to relax and to sleep in! I love running in the fenced–in area with my new friends but when my humans come home and it is time to leave, I’m mighty excited to go back home with them.“
“Hello! Greetings here from Daisy! I am a 1-year-old French Bulldog. I don’t like being alone at all. My human works from home, so I have a friend all day. If I am left alone, I need to go into my crate because I have very bad separation anxiety. I’m afraid my humans will leave me and never return. When I am put in my crate, it is only for a couple hours. If not crated, I will tear up things, pace back and forth, paw at the door, whine, bark, drool and even have an accident inside.
I hate even thinking of my humans going away. When they do, I need someone to stay at my house all day and overnight with me to help me feel secure until my humans return. Someone to play with me, take me on walks, take me to potty outside and just be around me to reassure me I am not alone and my humans will be back soon!”
